MY OPINION

Tommy Goettler
Period 2
There is a myth that humans only use 10% of their brain. The myth comes from Albert Einstein when he was trying to explain cosmic towering intellect. The modern day scientists and doctors believe this myth is false just like Dr. Barry Gordon. The myth keeps coming back because the media is still interested in the myth. “Soon, everyone believes the statement regardless of the evidence,” Dr. Eric H. Chudler. It seems like the myth will always stick around.
The myth stays alive due the theory that people are smarter than other people. If everyone used 100% of his or her brain than everyone one would be smart. Some people may be super geniuses and use more than 10% of his or her brain.
I think this myth is false. I don't believe that we only use 10% of our brain in a day. Just think about a simple task like pouring a glass of pop. First get the glass out, put in ice, get the pop out, unscrew the bottle, make sure you don't shake it, pour the pop in, wait a little for the fizz to go down, pour more, and don't over pour because it will spill. That seems like someone would use way more than 10% of his or her brain to pour a glass of pop. Also you to have to breathe, walk, run, play sports, etc. Also everything I found on the web agrees with what I think. Though an alluring idea, the "10 percent myth" is so wrong it is almost laughable, says neurologist Barry Gordon at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=people-only-use-10-percent-of-brain. Some of the doctors laugh at the myth and how outrageous it is. What do you think? There is a poll to the right of your screen, please vote on what you think. http://10brain.blogspot.com/

Tommy, I agree with your opinion about how humans do not only use 10% of their brain! i also that playing sports would take up way more then 10% of your brain! It Seems that that would not make sense for that to happen.

Things do appear to indicate we use a lot more from our brain than ten percent. Memory, keeping a body function internally, gaining new knowledge in school, sports, memories, senses, all of these are controlled by the brain. I do not believe people use 100%. I agree with Natasha and how she says sports takes up a good portion of the brain. If we could tap into 100% of the brain, i doubt we could have telekinetic powers. With science, they might be able to utilize all of the brain.

I agree JB, Memory would also have to fit into that 10% along with school and sports and body fuctions. I dont think thats possible to fit into only 10% of someones brain

I agree with you tommy i don't think we use all of it but i know we use more than 10%

yeah i agree with tasha. Think of an NFL quarterback like Peyton Manning, in just one play he has to: think/know the play and know where all his player are going, know how far to throw it, and know what the defense is doing.

Tommy, in reference to sports and Peyton Manning think about what a basketball player has to think through. just like football the player has to read the defense and make a cut to that spot and they have to remember plays from there own playbook. I agree with your conclusion and laugh at Dr. Barry Gordon for saying the 10 percent brain use is almost laughable.

I agree, to have to do all that would be almost impossible to fit into just 10% of the brain.

Things in this world that seem so simple are really very complex. This blog has helped me realize this, like pouring a glass of water or throwing a football. I still stand by the theory that we use more than 10 percent.

Why would human's have a brain that big if we only used 1/10 of it? why wouldn't it be that much smaller? I don't understand what the unused part of the brain are there for. I believe we use more than ten percent, however there is still a lot of unused parts of the brain.

i agree with what you guys are saying and i can understand why, with everything humans are capable of how is it possible that we only use 10 percent of our brain? agree with JB though when he says that he does not beleave that humans use 100 percent of there brain, seeing as the compacity of the human brain is huge it is hard to think that we do us 100 percent!

i also wonder that if we do not use 100 percent of our brain what other potentials do humans have that are possibly not unlocked yet???
